About Me

My photo
After 7 years of dating I finally married my high school sweetheart in Oct of 2009. I had always dreamed of marrying him and starting a family. On February 16, 2011 that dream came true when we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Colin James, into our lives. I look forward to sharing our joy with you!

Changes!

Things are changing, and for the better!  Colin no longer wakes up crying at night.  If he happens to wake up, he just talks for a bit and then goes back to sleep.  He also does this in the morning.  Yesterday morning he woke up around 6:30 and started talking, so I turned the monitor off for a little while and watched the lights to make sure he didn't start crying.  Well, I ended up falling back to sleep until 7:30.  I woke up and turned the video monitor on and he was just laying there playing with his monkey and his mobile!  We went in to get him and he just smiled!  No sign of any crying at all.  It's so nice that he can occupy his time while we get a little more sleep.  :-)

We have always followed Colin's cues when it comes to bed time.  It used to be between 9 and 10, then it became closer to 9, for the last 3 or 4 months it has been 8, and for the past couple weeks he has been ready for bed around 7:30.   Last night he was in bed at 7!  I love that it's getting earlier and earlier and he still is waking at the same time.  I actually get some relaxing time at night before bed.

Now that Colin has 2 teeth on the bottom he has become a pro at chewing food!  Even though he doesn't even use those teeth... haha  He also plays with his teeth with his tongue.  It's pretty cute to watch.  We are really blessed that Colin will eat almost anything we give him.  Even if I give him food that he doesn't like, he still eats it, he just makes a face and whines.  I figured he would just spit it out, but he doesn't, so it took me a minute to figure out when he didn't like something.  Now, if he gags, I know for sure he doesn't like it!

Yesterday we had our family pictures taken.  As much as Colin smiles, he did not want to smile... At least he didn't cry!  I just hope we got a few good shots!  He wore his new pair of jeans.  I even put shoes on him!  :-)  He looked so grown up!

Colin wants to stand up more and more.  He pulls up on everything now!!  When he pulls up on the coffee table he has started to walk sideways across it.  Until he falls... but he's getting better at landing on his bum rather than falling over!  He's growing up too fast.  I love watching him explore and learn new things!!

8 Months Old!!

~8 Months Old~

Waking up to cooler weather is refreshing!  But I'm glad I went out on Monday to enjoy the sun.  :-)  Colin is now 8 months old!  I'm not sure of his weight and height because his next Dr appointment isn't until next month.  He looks like he has slimmed down a little since he started moving around more.  He's not as chunky as he used to be.  I still get stopped several times while I'm out for people to tell me how adorable he is!  Everyone tells me that his expressions are really cute.  :-)  Makes a momma happy to hear stuff like that!  The other day we went shopping with Shannon and while she was holding Colin a sales associate came up to her and told her she was trying to get to Colin ever since we walked in the door.  She wanted to tell her how cute her baby is! haha

Swinging-
We have been having an exciting couple weeks.  Colin has experienced several "firsts" since my last post.  Last weekend (Oct 8), Kevin's Rugby team had a BBQ to kick off the season.  It was held at a park with some swings so Shannon and I took Colin over to the swings and he LOVED it!  As soon as I put him in the swing he started smiling and once I pushed him he couldn't contain himself.  It was awesome to see him so happy.  I'm going to have to do that more often!  Then I took him down a few slides and he didn't really care either way.

Pulling up-
On Oct 13 I was sitting on the couch while Colin played on the floor when he decided to pull himself up to the coffee table.  He has been doing this for a while where he will pull himself up to his knees but this time he pulled himself all the way to his feet!  I snapped a picture right when he did it and then I came around to sit with him in case he fell.  It was the first time he did that without help. So exciting!
Hey Momma, just standing up, no big deal!

Pulled himself up using Gamma's knees!
Big Bathtub-
As I mentioned in my last blog, Colin has outgrown his baby bath tub.  He still fits in it fine, but he has started to try to climb out to get to the sink.  I decided to move him into the big bath tub.  Of course as soon as I put him in the water he started splashing and playing!  He absolutely loved it!  I didn't really have any toys for him so he wanted to get to everything on the side of the tub... so we went and bought some foam letters that he can play with.  It worked, he now plays with those and is completely satisfied sitting on his bum without trying to get up on his knees!

Ut oh!!
Splash Splash!
Cruising-
Colin is not crawling yet, but he still rolls everywhere and the other day he started cruising.  He lays on his tummy and kicks and pushes with his feet and pulls with his hands to move forward.  He's pretty good at it and I read that it is sometimes what babies do right before they learn how to really crawl!  So we'll see. He's still right on track with everything, so he may still crawl instead of going straight to walking.  :-)

Went in to get him after a nap and snapped this picture right when I walked in!

What We've Been Up To-
For the past week we have been working on Colin's High Five's!  He's pretty good at them already!  He hits your hand multiple times and gets really excited!  But he doesn't do it consistently yet.  It's really cute though.  Colin had a bunch of different fruit the other day at the BBQ.  He did really well with the grapes.  I would cut them up into pieces and he fed himself.  He wasn't great with some of the harder fruits.  He wouldn't choke, he just kept them in his mouth and sucked on them.  I think it was about 20 min later and I didn't realize he still had a piece of cantaloupe in his mouth! This coming weekend we are taking family pictures.  We were supposed to do them a few weeks ago but it rained.  We won the photography sitting through a raffle at Kevin's rugby banquet!

Dr Visit and "Baba"

Colin has been learning and growing so much!  I need to go shopping for him because he doesn't have any warm clothes for the winter.  The other day (Sept 21) he started saying "Baba".  I'm pretty sure he's not referring to anything in particular.  He basically will just lay there and say "Bababababababa".  It's pretty cute.  He will even imitate it when I say it to him first!  Now I'm just waiting for him to turn it into Mama!!  His 2 bottom teeth are almost all the way in and look super cute!!  I love it!

Colin pulls himself up onto his knees now.  He holds onto the coffee table and does it, so if I want to leave him alone for a minute, I have to make sure he's no where near the table or else he will pull himself up and possibly fall.  He can only do it from a sitting position though.  He has also been getting up on his hands and knees.  He doesn't go anywhere, but he will stay like that for a little while before he falls back onto his tummy.  He wants to move SO bad!  I can tell he gets frustrated because he can't get every place he wants to.  I know he will probably start crawling soon though... so I need to start baby proofing the place.  He already gets into stuff and all he does is roll!

Gets up on his hands and knees, but doesn't go anywhere!
Dr Visit

Colin started getting a nasty cough last week and then this weekend he lost his voice.  It's so sad when he cries because he can't really get much sound out.  It's nice that it doesn't hurt my ears like usual, but it still makes me feel bad for him.  I took him to the Dr yesterday and she said he has a mild case of Croup.  Basically we just have to watch him and make sure he is breathing ok.  Especially at night time it could get worse.  I also had her look at the rash he has had on and off for a while.  She said it is eczema...  She gave me suggestions on what creams to use to keep his skin from getting too dry and said that he should grow out of it.  It's not bad and doesn't seem to bother him so that's good.

Bath Tub

I think it's time to put him in the actual bath tub for bath time.  The last few days he's been pulling himself forward in his little tub.  I've been putting it off as long as I could because I like standing up to wash him and I know he prefers his little tub.  I'm sure if I get some bath toys, he will be ok with the big boy tub!

Spit up and Sleep

Depending on the day, Colin only spits up a few times now!!  Occasionally he will spit up a lot, but for the most party it's down to only a couple times after eating!  Sometimes he doesn't spit up at all after a bottle!  It's great.  I don't have to change his clothes as much! Or mine!!  :-)  He's also sleeping so much better.  The past few nights he's only woken up once and cried and last night he didn't cry at all.  I hope it continues like this because I'm enjoying the sleep!

That's all I can think to mention right now.  I need to start updating more often so I don't forget important things!  Here are a couple pictures from the weekend.  :-)

Yummy french fry!

SFA Rugby Alumni

Two weekends ago we drove to Nacogdoches.  Each year, Kevin and I attend the SFA Rugby Alumni game and the alumni play a against the current SFA players.  It's a lot of fun to go and see a lot of our old friends that we spent SO much time with when we were in Nacogdoches.  Colin did really great during the game.  He enjoyed being outside even though it was a little hot.  Kelsey was there with August so I got some pictures of them together in the matching shirts Kelsey made them!  I can't wait for them to get older so they can run around and play together!  By the end of the game Colin was exhausted.  I left him with Heather while I went to take a picture of the players together and when I got back he was sound asleep.  He woke up when we got to the hotel though and ended up staying up until bedtime!  I can't believe Colin will be a year and a half old by the next Alumni game!

Hanging out with daddy at the hotel.

Waiting to meet up with Auggie!
