About Me

My photo
After 7 years of dating I finally married my high school sweetheart in Oct of 2009. I had always dreamed of marrying him and starting a family. On February 16, 2011 that dream came true when we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Colin James, into our lives. I look forward to sharing our joy with you!

Bronchiolitis....

Colin has had a little cough for a while but last Tuesday night (11/29) it started to get a worse.  It woke him up a few times and then in the morning he started wheezing.  I remember the nurse telling me when he was sick before that if he ever started wheezing to call them immediately.  So that's what I did and they wanted to see him right away.  Kevin had the car with him at work, so he came home and we took Colin straight to the doctor.  They checked his oxygen levels and found them to be at 96%.  It's nothing to worry about, but still not good.  She listened to his lungs and straight away she knew what it was.  Bronchiolitis.  She showed us how to tell that his breathing was labored because he was having to push the air out of his lungs, rather than it coming out easily.  Plus he had rapid breathing.  She gave us paperwork to read on it and Colin had every symptom listed. :-(  She gave him a breathing treatment, which he cried through.  After the treatment he was no longer wheezing.  We left and by the time we got home, (an hour later because we had to fill his prescriptions) he was wheezing again.  The first three days I gave him a treatment every 4 hours, the next 3 days we did them every 6-8 hours and then we did treatments twice a day because he still had a nasty cough. He's still coughing today, but not nearly as bad.  Through out all of this, he has acted like he feels fine!  He's crawling like normal, playing, and laughing.  He's such a trooper.  :-)

Weening

Babies are supposed to be weened by 12 months, and I hear that usually this is quite a task!  Whether a baby is breastfed or bottle fed, they get VERY attached to the nipple and it's hard to give it up.  Many babies ween themselves from being breastfed, but weening from a bottle can be a little more difficult.  Well, not in our case.  A few days before Colin turned 9 months, he started to refuse his bottle. I could get him to start drinking it, but halfway through he would throw it down and be done with it.  I thought it was a faze from teething or something, but 3 weeks later, it hasn't gotten any better. All he really wants it table food.  So I give him about 3 forced bottles throughout the day, and the rest of his calories come from actual food!  I'm pretty sure he would be completely happy if I stopped giving him a bottle all together.  However,  he still needs his formula at this age and I don't want him to be weened completely yet.  Although, 12 months is only 2 months and 1 week away!!  *cringe*

New Stuff

I have been working on teaching Colin to eat off of a plate and out of bowls. I used to put a plate or bowl of food in front of him and he immediately would dump it out on the floor or table and then eat the food.  He's been doing great!  He waits until he's done to play with it!!  He also has learned to set his sippy cup down on the table instead of throwing it on the floor between sips!

Colin and I went to visit April, Braxton and the girls on Friday (12/9).  He had so much fun playing with them!  He really loves to interact with other kids now.  He pulled up on my leg in the kitchen and I felt him let go. I figured he was going to sit down but when I looked at him he was standing All By Himself!  I couldn't believe it!  He stood for a few seconds before sitting down!

Kevin said he has seen Colin dance a couple times.  I haven't seen it yet, but I look forward to it!

Colin's First Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving

We went to Bryan TX to visit Kevin's family for Thanksgiving.  Everyone was there, his grandparents, great grandma, aunt, uncle, cousins, mom, dad, and brothers.  Everyone but his sister, who was very missed!!  We drove in Wednesday night and then went out to dinner with everyone. So Colin went to bed a couple ours passed his bedtime.  He slept GREAT!  I didn't hear him wake at all that night and when I woke up in the morning at 6:45 I became a little worried.  I jumped up and opened the bathroom door (yes, we put his pack-n-play in the bathroom lol) and he was sitting up, not making a sound.  When he heard the door open he looked at me and smiled real big!  He played with his cousins all day and then we went to tailgate at the A&M-Texas game.  Colin's first tailgate!!  We went right at his nap time, so he was a little cranky, but settled down once we put food in front of him!  After the tailgate we went home and played for a bit and then he went to bed  at his normal bedtime.  Colin didn't sleep well that night and woke up in a bad mood.  Kevin, Jeremy, and I went with Kevin's mom to shop for our Christmas presents!  The lines were a bit long, but it's not too bad when you have good company.  Colin stayed home and played with his cousins!!  We had our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday because Thursday everyone was busy with the game.  It was a really good dinner, Colin stuffed his face with turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and fruit!  There pretty much isn't anything this boy won't eat!  We invited our friend Kelsey and her son Auggie over for dinner.  So Colin had a little buddy!!  They didn't play together much, but if one was playing with a toy, the other always wanted it too!!

Mom's Birthday

My moms birthday was on Tuesday Nov, 22.  She came over with my brother and we opened presents and had cake!  She read Colin a book before bed and then ended up rocking him to sleep.  <3

Crawling etc.

Colin has figured out that crawling is a very effective way to get around.  Which means he is really getting into everything now.  It's nice that he's becoming more independent, but I have to watch him like a hawk!  His new favorite thing to do is play in the dog bowls!  He splashes in the water bowl and he tries to eat the dog food.  He has already put the dog food in his mouth 3 times and gets very upset when I remove it!!
I don't know if this is a developmental stage, but Colin is determined to put everything on top of tables.  Especially the coffee table. I wonder if I should get him toys that encourage stacking.  Because that seems to be what he wants to do now.  Oh and he pooped in the tub for the first time... haha  It was so gross... At least we went 9 months before it happened!
Colin has been working on his top teeth for a few weeks now and it's driving him (and me) crazy!  I noticed today that his top left tooth has finally started to break through, so I hope it comes through quickly and the right one isn't far behind!

9 Month Check Up

Colin had his 9 month check up today and he got another A+!  He didn't have to get any vaccine shots, but he did get a booster flu shot.  The Dr said that he's doing great and looks like he might be an early walker.  We won't count on that though!  His weight gain has slowed down to the 75 percentile because of him being more active, but his height is still in the 90 percentile.  He's 21lbs 15oz and 29.3in tall.  When the Dr was looking in his mouth he noticed that his upper teeth are going to break through soon!  I hadn't even noticed.  He suddenly stopped eating a few days ago, which really worried me, but it only lasted a day and a half.  Maybe his teeth are the reason for that.  I think he's starting to wean himself from the bottle.  He's drinking less and less ounces throughout the day.  The Dr said he can have anything we eat besides peanut products, milk, and honey.  Everything else is fair game!  Good thing, since we pretty much give him whatever we eat anyway.

We went to the park a few days ago.  Colin went on the swing and down the slide (with daddy's help).  Then we sat in the grass and enjoyed the nice weather!  Colin liked to crawl around in the grass.  He's crawling everywhere now.  He gets into everything.  I've started baby proofing, but I still have a ways to go.  He found the dog food bowls and even the cat food bowls.  He likes to chase Cooper around the apartment and Cooper just runs away!  It's so cute how Colin lights up when he sees Cooper and Diesel.  Especially when they start playing together.  Colin starts to giggle and laugh!  That's all for now.  It took me all day just to get this much posted!!  :-)

I love this age. :-)

I totally and completely love this age.  Colin is the sweetest little mommas boy.  All he wants to do is stand.  He is getting better at crawling, but his main focus is pulling up on everything and walking side to side while holding on.  In the last 2 weeks he pulled up in his crib for the first time, learned how to sit up from laying down, and has found the fireplace.  Which means we need to get a nice looking screen for it.  :-)

He's so spoiled, which I don't love... I know it's my fault.  When I set him on the floor with his toys, he cries like he's being abused.  He follows me around and grabs my leg wherever I go.  When I pick him up, he grins because he got exactly what he wanted.  But he gives the sweetest, loveliest hugs and LOVES it when I dance with him.  He giggles when I tickle him and has the biggest smile when he sees daddy walk in the door after work.  He loves other kids and wants their constant attention.  He screams when he gets excited and pouts when he doesn't get what he wants.  He's learning what "no, no" means and pouts his bottom lip when I say it.  He is obsessed with juice and will drink his entire sippy cup even if he's already full.  Which causes him to spit up... He's the hungriest baby I've ever met and if he's fussing, give him a mum mum and he will be the happiest baby ever.  He eats his egg or cereal in the morning, his chicken or turkey sticks for lunch and whatever we have for dinner or baby food.  I don't know how he is so good at chewing when he doesn't have but 2 teeth!

He loves Diesel and Cooper and they love him now that he eats real food and drops it on the floor.  I have even caught him reaching out to Diesel with food in his hand and giving it to him.  Clever little boy.  He wants to play with everything except his toys.  He is in love with his stuffed monkey and as soon as I give it to him he snuggles it and his eyes start rolling back.  He is now a tummy sleeper, and I think it is so cute.  He wakes up about an hour before we do, but doesn't cry, he puts his paci in his mouth, grabs his Baby Einstein IPod and changes the song over and over while watching the lights blink.  He will do this until I come in to get him.  He goes down for two naps a day without a fuss and then happily to bed around 7.  After we read a book of course.  :-)  He loves bath time.  He wants to smile at everyone and will stare at someone while we are at the store until they look at him and then he will give a big grin.  He says the same three words over and over, "Baba", "Yigh Yigh", and "Dada".  None of which are Mama!!

He has decided that he no longer wants me to change his clothes or his diaper.  There are way more important things to do, like play with the curtains or pull on the blinds and look out the window.  He cries when I go to put him in his car seat and arches his back, but is fine and happy once he is buckled in.
Being a mommy has been the best adventure of my life.  Even though it's only been 8 1/2 months.  I look forward to waking each morning and seeing his smiling face.  He is the best parts of Kevin and I and I am enjoying every second I stay home with him!  <3

He was in his bouncer eating his bottle when I left the room, when I came back in he was like this!
